To be clear on these two concepts:
- Marking a match means you are watching and adjudicating the match in real time and using the MMM marking app to increment the game scores accordingly
- Scoring a match means you are setting the match score (games/sets/points won or lost) on MMM after the match has taken place.
On completion of marking, the match gets automatically scored.
You Score a match by locating the match display and selecting "Score" that opens up the scoring section. You can only score a match if you organised it or played in it.
If you can score a match you can mark it (there's a mark button within the scoring section of the match) - any time, anywhere. You can also designate anyone else to mark the match.
Additionally, you can Mark a match on the following conditions:
- You are located at the club where the match has been booked (you must have location detection switched on)
- The match is booked within an hour of the present time
- You are part of the event to which the match relates (e.g. a team member for fixtures or participant in a tournament)
On your home page all matches that meet the above conditions will be listed allowing you to start marking any one of them. You can also get a dedicated screen to show eligible matches by following the link to https://app.managemymatch.com/my/marker.
If you are given the opportunity to mark a match you can elect yourself or anyone else to mark it.
Your club can also set up a dedicated marking device that can be used to mark any match so long as it meets these two conditions:
- The device is located at the club where the match is being played
- The match is booked within an hour of the present time
If a match is already being marked at the club, it'll still show on this device (irrespective of when or if booked) allowing the user to watch and/or take over the scoring at any point.
With MMM supplied marking devices, they do nothing else. If a club has their own device (e.g. an iPad) it can be set as a marker and used for other purposes. In which case, we suggest you pin* the tab that is set for MMM marking (https://app.managemymatch.com) in Safari for easy access. You could also book mark it.
Please note that "Add to Home Screen" will not work - Apple removes all the path and cookie data when this is done and thus renders the saved "app" useless in this scenario (and many others!)
Tournament play
If you are running a tournament where all or many of the matches are played in one session, you'll want to have the matches scored quickly in order to see the progression of the tournament on line. MMM's marking app is perfect for this scenario (assuming you've booked the matches in) because once marking is complete the scores are instantly recorded and dependent matches become clear.
Dedicated marking devices can be used for anyone to mark imminent matches. Also anyone present at the tournament will be able to use their own device to mark matches.
If the marking app is not used, each match must be scored immediately after play - but only the players involved or the organisers can do this. For players they'll see their matches in their home page or in the "Matches" page and can score them easily from there.
For organisers, they need to navigate to a page that shows all matches for a particular event:
- Choose Manage events
- Choose Draws tab
- Select the relevant event
- Click Matches sub-tab (the last one)
From this page, an organiser can find any match in the tournament and score it or mark it (or nominate someone else to mark it). The ability to set a marker is not restricted by either the booking time or the organiser's location. So if the match is being played at an unexpected time, or simply not booked then this is where an organiser can designate a marker without conditions.
This is the "control centre" for match scoring/marking from an organisers view point. During a live tournament you are strongly advised to have a laptop screen open on this page readily available. You may want to designate more people as organisers to ensure you have the right people ready and able to do this.
* To pin a tab in safari, click on the boxes icon top right and this will layout the tabs as panels on the screen. Long press on the MMM marking tab and you'll get a little popup of available options - one of them is "Pin Tab". Choose that and then the MMM marking tab will always appear as a little tab option top left for immediate access.
