Yes, you can. But you should be aware of how smart invitations take advantage of this as well.
A smart invitation lets you advertise your desire to play at certain times whether courts are free or not. You can put these in place at any time. If a court becomes available at a time you have a smart invitation MMM will do 2 things:
- First, it will see if anyone else has a smart invitation at that time that matches yours - if so, good times, a match will be booked for both of you there and then - completely automatically.
- Otherwise, yes, you will get a notification that you might want to lock in this court with your invitation
In addition to the above, you can opt to receive a notification if any court becomes free. You can set this in My account -> My preferences under the other tab. There you will find a panel entitled "Choose a late cancellation period to receive a notification of a newly available court". For example, if you set this to "2 days", you'll get a notification if a court becomes free either today, tomorrow or the following day.
For both notification reasons, it only applies if there are no other courts available at that precise time and duration.
But there are other conditions that apply for this last notification to work:
- You must be a current club member, not be in arrears in fee payments and be up to date with your agreement to club T&Cs
- The court must support one of your selected sports
- You must have rights to book that specific court (for example, if you have off-peak membership and the freed up court is peak, then you'll not be notified)
- The court must be marked as one of your preferred courts, under the courts tab of My preferences
- The court time must be marked as one of your preferred times, in the My availability section of My preferences
- It only works if the cancellation was for a member's private booking (solo or match) - club booked cancellations don't trigger the notification. This is to protect the club should they be shortly rebooking them.
