The default setting is that lights come on 2 to 3 minutes before the booking and switch off 2 to 3 minutes after the booking. If a booking follows on immediately after the previous slot then the lights simply stay on.
Members can book "extra light" which is really a means to switch the lights on when you are present at the club and have no booking. When this is done, the lights will come on immediately and a choice is given as to how long the member would like them to stay on - 10 or 20 minutes or for the full session slot. In this particular scenario a member may turn "extra light" back off again at any time, thus saving on light fees (they are charged pro-rata per minute).
For tennis courts, lights may require a warmup period (configured per court by the club) in which case the lights will switch on earlier than 3 minutes - whatever the period specified is (typically 10 minutes). Where a warmup time is relevant a warm-down time is also assumed for the same amount of time. So in the example of a 10 minute warm up time, the lights will stay on for a full 10 minutes after any booking. This can be useful, for example, where members may be required to clean or sweep the courts after play.
Lights will usually switch on automatically prior to a booking. However, the club may have the policy that the member must confirm their presence at the club before this happens. This is configured by the club for each court and, if set, the lights need to be "confirmed" at the kiosk (or on mobile when the user is at the club) before they will switch on. Confirmation may be given from up to 30 minutes before the booking time and at any time throughout the booking time.
